At Head of the Class we firmly believe that all children want to do well. When they are not something is getting in the way. It is our job to remove the barriers to learning so that every child may feel successful and confident in their abilities. Our unique approach honours each student as an individual. Our team of teachers are sensitive and responsive to the individual needs of all students. The centre offers individualized programs that will address those specific needs. We begin the process with a free, 30 min, no obligation consultation to discuss concerns and determine some of the needs that your child may have. By compiling information we can begin to create an action plan. Our highly qualified instructors work closely with each student on classroom work and are able to determine other areas/skills that need to be addressed. Designing a students program is a cooperative process that involves feedback from parents, students, instructors and classroom teachers. A student’s program is constantly evolving as they strengthen skills and encounter new challenges. Programs are designed so that students may achieve success at every stage, building their competence so they become more confident in their abilities and begin to see themselves as an effective learner. Ms. Colomba is always looking for new opportunities to learn and strengthen her teaching skills. She has attended numerous child development courses and parenting support groups instructed and facilitated by parenting expert Win Harwood. The knowledge and the skills acquired from these courses has proven to be invaluable both professionally and personally. Ms. Colomba has also attended many workshops and seminars such as Reaching in-Reaching out: teaching resilience in young children, Positive Peaceful Discipline in the Classroom, and ADHD-effective strategies within the classroom. Ms. Colomba has tutored children of all ages since high school and has worked with many students with special needs. She has a love of learning particularly in the areas of science and mathematics and loves to share her enthusiasm for these subjects through various age appropriate, hands on activities with the students. She is passionate about understanding and meeting the particular needs of each student so that they may have the opportunity to grow and reach their full potential.
Julie Fader has been a teacher in various capacities for almost 16 years. Passionate about the needs of children as learners, she has pursued many avenues towards information and training about how children learn, what the obstacles can be to learning for young children and how to overcome such obstacles. As part of this ongoing pursuit, Ms. Fader co founded and co directs a not for profit organization called New ADDitudes Inc, an information, resource and support centre for parents and educators managing children with Learning Differences. This work has lead her into some very important training around Collaborative Problem Solving with Dr.s Ross Greene and Stuart Ablon in Summer 2007 at Harvard University. Equally passionate about the approach to imparting information to children and managing behaviour as well, Ms. Fader has also studied child development and positive peaceful methods of guiding children with Win Harwood of Positive Parenting Windsor. For the past several years Ms. Fader has been giving workshops for Teachers about positive nurturing techniques in the classroom called "What do You want to Teach Today" and most recently "Powerful Peaceful Discipline for the Classroom Teacher" partnered with Win Harwood. It is Ms. Fader's most fervent belief that children do best in an environment where they feel safe, their needs are being met and they experience unconditional positive regard from an adult.
