At HOTC we are research based in our approach to learning and to supporting learners potential. One of the tenets that research bears out is that how a student feels about themselves as a learner is critical to their success. To that end we have developed a comprehensive training program for our teachers/ tutors called Every Word Counts to ensure consistently the highest quality of service delivery to our students. This program is the foundation of positivity and social emotional learning for our students.

Julie Fader B.A., B.Ed.
Owner / Director |
Born and raised in Windsor Ontario, Julie Fader has been a certified teacher for over 23 years. Passionate about the needs of children as learners, Julie has pursued many avenues towards information and training regarding how students learn, what the obstacles can be to learning for young children and how to overcome such obstacles. One of these avenues has been the imparting of mindfulness skills to students of all ages. As a practitioner of mindfulness since her early teens, Julie has been using the various skills and techniques of awareness in the present moment with curiosity and kindness, to help students learn connection to self, calm and proactivity With a firm belief in the whole person and the unlimited potential of each human being, Julie has created a centre dedicated to the pursuit of support, mindful learning and exemplary instruction.
Julie knew from a very young age that she wanted to be a teacher. As a grade school student Julie struggled a great deal. It was later discovered during her high school years that Julie had a learning disability with a co existing anxiety disorder. The anxiety led to the first steps towards mindfulness training that have lasted a lifetime. From that moment on, Julie was determined to educate herself and others on learning differences, our beautiful brains and mindfulness. As part of this ongoing pursuit, Julie co-founded and co-directed a not for profit organization called New ADDitudes Inc, an information, resource and support centre for parents and educators managing children with Learning Differences. In addition, Julie also achieved certification in advanced training in Collaborative Problem Solving with Dr.s Ross Greene and Stuart Ablon at Harvard University. In 2008, Julie together with her founding partner and sister Heather Colomba, created Head of the Class Education Centre, an award winning tutoring and Learning Support Centre and is the author of workshops discussing ADHD, Mindfulness and Social Emotional Learning. Currently Julie's focus is on continuous professional development in learning pedagogy, learning differences and the growth mindset of learning. It is Julie's most fervent belief and her sole mission at Head of the Class, that children do best in an environment where they feel safe, their needs are being met and they experience unconditional positive regard from an adult. |
